For those wondering the difference between the KG-UV8E tri-band radio and the KG-UV8T model, the primary difference is the KG-UV8E model radio ships with unlocked transmit from 136-174MHz VHF and 400-520MHz on UHF, while the KG-UV8T radio is locked (from the factory) and will only transmit from 144-148 MHz on VHF and 430-450 MHz on UHF (the U.S. amateur radio portions of the VHF/UHF bands). In addition, the KG-UV8T radio normally ships with the smaller 1700 mAh standard battery.
